The insert is the part of the flat surface around the blade of a scroll saw. It can generally pop out. The problem is that when you cut something very small the hole in the insert can make it difficult and bits can fall through it. So what you need is an insert with a tiny hole that barely fits the saw blade. In the video he makes an insert out of aluminum it is only 2mm or 0.079 inches thick.
