This pattern depicts the head and shoulders of a German Shepherd. The breed is a medium to large-sized working dog that originated in Germany. Despite its more primitive, wolf-like appearance, the German Shepherd is a relatively modern breed of dog, with their origin dating to 1899. They were originally developed for herding sheep. Because of their intelligence and trainability German Shepherds are often the preferred breed for types of work, such as disability assistance, search-and-rescue, police and military roles.
